Entry Level Interior Designer / Interior Design Assistant

The primary focus of these roles will be to support the experienced design team.

An Entry Level Interior Designer is a candidate who has a degree in Interior Design but does not have experience or has only limited experience working in a professional design office. Advancement of position is based on work production and work ethic as well as the employee’s ability to advance their skill set to qualify for an Associate Designer position.

An Interior Design Assistant is a candidate that does not have any experience but possesses a strong interest in Interior Design. Any advancement from this position would require obtaining a certificate or degree in Interior Design or undergoing an agreed-upon educational track approved by MDG.

Our office environment is very fast-paced and requires the ability to prioritize activities within the context of a given project and between projects with the assistance of the Lead and Associate Designers.

Daily Duties include:

  • Creating project budgets, estimates and presentations for Lead Designers
  • Ordering and organizing samples and finishes for projects
  • Organizing and maintaining the office and the Design Library

Ideal candidates should possess some of the following qualifications & skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Architecture or Interior Design
  • Knowledge of the following: architectural interior design concepts, practices, design codes, construction documentation and specification, interior materials, finishes, detailing, and residential furniture lines – including sourcing, specifying, and pricing
  • Can select and develop interior finishes and specification packages and confidently prepare color palettes and finish vision boards for client
  • Knowledge with AutoCAD to provide support on projects which include completing the following for Interior Design Packages: floor plans, furniture plans, finish plans, reflected ceiling plans, electrical plans, interior elevations, interior details, millwork details, ceiling details, etc.​
  • Excellent attention to detail and highly organized
  • Great communication skills for corresponding on emails between clients, staff and sales reps, as well as answering the office phone.
  • Team player with the ability to work with lead designers and associate designers while assisting them responsibly and effectively on all projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to lift between 45 to 50 lbs.
  • Flexibility to travel to job sites as well as High Point Furniture Market at least once a year
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Autocad, Quickbooks (or equivalent)
