FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions - McMullin Design Group

F.A.Q.

Here are some questions that clients new to the design process tend to ask. Please give us a call if you have any questions! We are happy to discuss our process with new clients.

We are planning to build a new (or vacation) home. We don’t need a designer until after the home is built, right?

We don’t think you should wait! The sooner we are brought into the project, the easier it is to collaborate with your design team. MDG provides our customers with pre-construction planning, including plans, detail elevations, and specification packages that fit the budget our client sets forth. This process saves our clients significant money and time by creating an “apples to apples” bid process, avoiding costly mistakes with back orders and change order fees. We will walk you through the detailed process of selecting plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, tile, tile designs, flooring, and more! After the design process is complete, MDG can also help you with your decorating plan. On average, our clients save 40-50% off retail prices on the furnishings in their home.

We are planning an addition or renovation. Do we have to call an architect?

Not necessarily! Not every project needs an architect. We like to design from the inside-out! MDG helps you create the home of your dreams by taking a holistic approach to the planning of your addition. We will meet with you to ascertain your goals and create an addition plan that will improve the flow of your home, add value to your property, and give you an improved quality of life while taking into consideration your existing furniture, new furnishings, and decorating inspirations. If an architect is needed for your project, we can recommend reliable architects we have worked with in the past.

I am ready to decorate. How does it work?

From upholstered furniture to casegoods, draperies to area rugs, and lighting fixtures to lamps, MDG is a wholesaler for over 400 home lines that you can find online and in stores. We attend four furniture markets a year to look at, feel, and inspect the quality of goods we supply to our clients. On average, our clients save 40-50% off retail prices on the furnishings in their home.

I plan on retiring in my home. Can we afford an interior designer?

Bridget McMullin, ASID, CID, CAPS, is a Certified Aging in Place specialist. Bridget can show you how to stay in your home longer and save significant money along the way by updating your home now.

Do you do windows?

Yes, we do! MDG does everything for windows. From custom fabric treatments to shades and shutters, MDG’s interior designers will guide you in picking out the best window solution for your home. You will be surprised! Our prices are competitive with local big box stores for items like blinds and shutters.

We are only doing one room. Is our project too small for you?

No project is too small for MDG. We can give you design and decoration solutions that will fit the budget you set forth.

Can you help me pick paint colors?

From selecting colors to helping clients decide on the best use of their space, MDG offers customized consultations that will help you with any design dilemma in your home.

How far do you travel?

No job is ever too far for MDG. We have completed projects all over the country, and we specialize in remote vacation homes. Our primary locations are the Philadelphia Metropolitan area, New Jersey, and the Jersey Shore Points. We have completed projects for clients in Pittsburgh, Florida, Chicago, and San Francisco.
