Rancher Redo

Cherry Hill, New Jersey

Our client had been searching for over five years in the Barclay Farms neighborhood for the perfect little rancher to downsize into.  Most were coming onto the market with a high asking price and in desperate need of renovation.  When the perfect property came on board, they were lucky enough to have all the bathrooms already renovated, so they were willing and able to put their thumbprint on the kitchen, dining, and family room.

Like most homes built in the ’60s and ’70s, each room in the client’s house was its own oasis.  The client wanted to figure out a way to open up those spaces. We started by creating a larger opening to the kitchen and by bringing down the wall between the kitchen and dining room.  From there, we extended the kitchen cabinets and the sink under a new window and created a small peninsula to divide the former eat-in kitchen with its new open plan. The large windows at the sink and the marble backsplash that extends to the ceiling creates an overall feeling of openness and light, something not found in the original design. The sunroom/enclosed porch addition was reframed as an intimate TV room where our clients have found they spend most of their leisure time inside the house.  All the floors were refinished throughout and some new furnishings were added to be more appropriate for the size of the home.
