Panoramic Lake

Wilmette, IL

Transformation takes commitment to a goal, so MDG committed to achieving the vision of this executive client. The vision was simple: a clean-living palette that allowed our client to unwind and relax after a long day with their own clients. So, MDG created a neutral textural palette that allowed serene Lake Michigan to be the true star of the show. The client also planned on downsizing, so making sure there was adequate storage was another major consideration of this project.

This 1960s condo got a much-needed update into the 21st century.  A good portion of the interior walls were removed (where possible) to create an open living plan. The electric fireplace (yup, it’s electric) was oriented so the client could take advantage of the panoramic views, which we enhanced further by adding mirrors to the columns closest to the window – a subtle addition that extended the view through the space. The kitchen was tucked further back by the plumbing supply wall, so MDG extended the storage and the island cabinets to make prepping a breeze and to integrate the heavily used peninsula into the living area.

Toilets were relocated using wall-mounted units which helped us bypass the existing stacks and allowed for more flexibility in the design of the spaces.  We also created a spa-like master shower and added a walk-in closet and additional storage to the bedroom. Wood cladding, a slab porcelain front fireplace and grasscloth wall coverings all set the backdrop for the contemporary furnishings.
