Mixing Elements

Newtown, PA

Biting off a big decorating plan after purchasing a large home might have been a daunting task for two very busy professionals without the MDG team by their side.  Our clients had big plans for their house and a very aggressive timeline – in fact, it was too aggressive to complete before they moved in. MDG sat down with the clients and talked about the best approach to get them everything they wanted in a realistic timeframe.  Once they understood the process (one that they had never been through before) they trusted MDG to complete the project.

The client’s taste was much more modern than the style that the house actually embodied.  So, to keep the cost down, we made it our goal to marry contemporary elements into the spaces without completely stripping the home of those elements that made it less modern.

First on the list was a refresh of the kitchen. Overall, the layout was fine, but the cabinets were dated.  MDG worked with a cabinet re-facer to update the kitchen at a fraction of the cost. Then, we took a cue from the existing trim work in the dining room and replicated the simple design in the dated foyer. We added modern lighting elements that set the contemporary tone throughout.  We also decorated the secondary rooms like the “formal” living room on a lower budget scale and concentrated the high-quality items into the family room, which gets the most use.  The impactful sectional and the barrel swivel chairs create an inviting entertainment zone ready for over a dozen guests (our client LOVES to entertain).  We chose fabrics that could withstand wine and food stains.  Large art pieces, colorful fabrics, and quality furnishings all were combined to give the family longevity in their new home.
